Biography of Matthew Knauss

Matt Knauss, known as one of the toughest but fairest prosecutors in the Puget Sound area when he was hired by Cowan Kirk Gaston to join their DUI defense law firm, is a veteran of countless trials and numerous other traffic and criminal prosecutions, including numerous DUI cases.  As a prosecutor, it was his responsibility to prepare for the numerous legal issues and challenges that would be raised by the top DUI lawyers in the community and to respond to them in court.

Matt interned with the Bothell Prosecutor’s Office, where he was lead counsel in multiple jury and bench trials and then became an Associate Prosecuting

Attorney for the City of Lynwood. In early 2006 he was hired by the law firm of Moberly & Roberts who hold the contracts to prosecute for numerous municipalities, and served as the lead Prosecutor for the cities of Kirkland, Medina and Clyde Hill, until he was hired by Cowan Kirk Gaston.

A graduate of the National College for DUI Defense, Matt is member of the College, the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Washington State Bar Association.

Matt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration
from the University of Denver in 2001 where he was a recipient of the Provost Scholarship.  During his time in Denver, Matt was an avid ski racer as well as an active member of Lambda Chi Alpha; he also served as the Interfraternity Counsel President.
Immediately following college, Matt attended the Seattle University School of law, receiving his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, in 2004.

After work, it’s not unusual to find Matt on a run around Green Lake, taking in a ball game, or trying one of the countless other exciting activities the Seattle area has to offer.
